ANLP: Changes to timetable

Welcome to ANLP!
I realise it's only welcome week, but I have some urgent news to share with you: the lecture theatres in which ANLP had been timetabled on Tuesdays and Thursdays are among those affected by structural problems with RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete), and thus ANLP has had some last-minute changes to its timetable. If you are an Informatics student, you will have seen an email from Neil Heatley on Thursday for more information on RAAC and why this is necessary. As a consequence of ongoing RAAC mitigations, all lectures that were due to be held in Appleton Tower Lecture Theatre 4 or Appleton Tower Lecture Theatre 5 are being moved for the first five weeks of semester 1.
The new locations for ANLP now appear on the official university timetable below. In these locations, you will notice the acronym EICC: that's the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, located at The Exchange, 150 Morrison St, Edinburgh EH3 8EE. That's estimated to be a 22-minute walk from George Square, and it may take you additional time to locate the lecture theatre in the building (which is quite large), so if you plan to attend the lecture in person, please account for travel time. The university is aware that this is inconvenient, but unfortunately there were no other lecture theatres with a capacity of 200+ available with a few days' notice at the beginning of the semester!
We are aware that this is likely to be very inconvenient for some or perhaps most of you. I want to assure you that we will do everything that we can to mitigate the effects of this displacement: we intend to make the lectures available by streaming, and to make the recordings available afterwards. By default, we plan to make lecture recordings available for all ANLP lectures. Streaming details will be available soon.
The ANLP Monday lectures are not affected by this change. We are still planning to hold them in Appleton Tower lecture theatre 2, which is not affected by RAAC. This includes our introductory lecture on Monday the 18th, so I look forward to seeing you there.
