COMN: Course Information

This course will involve the following activities:

• On-campus lectures twice a week
• Lecture timings and venues as per the course timetable.
• Online live office hour / tutorials / Q&A sessions over Teams on Tuesdays at 9:00 throughout the semester (as per the course activites schedule below) to cover essential background, systems setup for assignments and Q&A.
• Coursework: Assessment for this course is based on coursework and exam.
  • Quizzes (0%): There will be 5 biweekly online quizzes. These quizzes are aimed at assessing the understanding and ability to apply the concepts taught in the course. As such, following the lecture material and completing the associated readings regularly each week will serve as preparation for these quizzes. 
  • Practical assignments (50%): There will be three assignments, each targeting a different practical aspect of computer networking as outlined below:
    • Analysis of network traffic traces (0% -- formative assessment)
    • Implementation and analysis of sliding window protocols (30%)
    • SDN applications (20%)
  • Exam (50%)
