FINET: Course Materials
Lecture Recordings
All lecture recordings should be accessed via Learn; you will need to log in using your EASE account. (Learn provides you with access to any lecture recordings available for this course. You will need to select the "lecture recording" link once, before you can access any direct links to a lecture recording.)
Additional material
This is additional material that will not be examined. I upload it because some students showed interest in learning more about specific topics and niches.
Santo Fortunato (2010) Community detection in graphs https://arxiv.org/pdf/0906.0612
Not particularly recent, so some algorithms are missing. However, it is a fantastic survey about community detection and it provides a lot of detail for those interested.
Tiago Peixoto (2022) Descriptive vs inferential community detection in networks: pitfalls, myths, and half-truths. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2112.00183
Great analysis of the difference between approaches such as the SBM and modularity maximisation. A bit heavy on the maths sometimes, but insightful even if you skip the maths.
Castellano, Fortunato, Loreto (2009) Statistical physics of social dynamics https://journals.aps.org/rmp/pdf/10.1103/RevModPhys.81.591
Amazing overview of physics-inspired models for social/opinion dynamics. It covers all the basic models in detail.
