Guest Lecture - Aditi Surana
Exploring Design Paradigms: Methods, Ethics & Inclusivity
Abstract: "The guest lecture will provide an introduction to the field of Design, its frameworks and methods, and their practical application. Through two short activities, the students will build a conceptual as well as practical understanding of Design Ethics (or Ethical Design) and Inclusive Design, the challenges in applying ethical principles, and the problems of ‘unintended consequences’. Finally, the lecture will provide a glimpse of design-informatics (tech) collaborations and the value of such multidisciplinary knowledge.

This article pushes back on the inclusion of stakeholders as a catch-all solution, noting that this can often be done in such a way as to make design look more inclusive, but where no actual benefits are gained from this or where it is simply more work put onto already marginalised people.
