Week 0: Preparation steps and materials

Steps to take as soon as possible

You can do these as soon as you know you plan to take the course, even if you are not yet registered.

  1. If you're still deciding about whether to take the course, see: ANLP: should I take this course?
  2. If you think you will take the course, take a look at the mathematics tutorials, especially the exercises. If you feel completely comfortable with all of this material, that's great! But if not, please start working through these materials now. We will assume you are familiar with the notation and concepts in these tutorials by the end of Week 1. If you haven't seen some or all of this material before, it may take a bit longer to get comfortable with it, but you should start as soon as possible.

Steps to take as soon as you are registered for the course

  1. Visit the Learn page for this course and go through the Week 0 to-do list there. This will take you through registering for the tools we'll use, like Piazza and Gradescope. Accessing these through Learn will ensure you are registered using the correct email address: your UUN@ed.ac.uk email address (e.g., s1234567@ed.ac.uk). If you are already registered for these tools using a different email address, there are instructions on Learn about how to change it.
