EIP: Weeks Nine and Ten

These two weeks are reserved for student teams to work on the three key outputs they will present at the pitching event in Week 11: The contents of the business plan web site, the technical demo, and the actual pitch. Additionally, a guest lecture in week 10 will introduce students to the world of fundraising for start-up companies.

This will be an intense period of the course, where teams develop and finalise, in a largely self-directly fashion - 

  1. The business plan web site, which contains an online presentation of their business value proposition that provides all the outputs produced while pursuing the 24 Disciplined Entrepreneurship steps. Returning to the canvas for the proposition originally started in Week One, teams should now be able to provide a coherent and complete narrative that covers all relevant elements of the MVBP so it can be presented to all stakeholders, including customers, investors, and, most importantly, the panel of judges who will attend the final pitching event.
  2. The demo, a technical demonstration of the technology that underpins the MVBP - this should be concise, informative, and appealing, and it must be prepared professionally and practiced sufficiently to make sure it can be run in front of a live audience (and also added as a video to the business plan web site). Developing software and hardware artefacts for the demo may require a lot of effort, so teams have to be smart about what elements to focus on, always with the audience in mind and what they can get out of a demonstration. 
  3. The pitch, a short verbal presentation supported by a pitch deck (that is sufficient to present the MVBP when a live presenter from the team is not in the room) that covers all relevant information and presents the team's proposition in such a way that an investor could be convinced to make an investment offer. 

Much of the work on these outputs will focus on distilling key insights from the team's earlier work, synthesising and polishing the final deliverables.
