Week 9: Layout and Design

Welcome to week 9 and the last week with compulsory video content! Well done for making it this far!

The last two videos will focus on designing the layout of a User Interface. We will continue to think about Design Patterns, Mental Models, and Nielson’s heuristics. But we will also learn how to support users in parsing our interface by using visual groupings called Gestalt principles.

I am honoured to inform you about an upcoming guest lecture. Dr Adam Jenkins, a teaching and research fellow at King’s College, will give a lecture on the intersection between AI and HCI. He has wide ranging expertise in cyber security and human computer interaction through work on software updates, phishing, and data ethics. He used many creative methods such as game development in his research and will take you through the importance of HCI in the world of Data and Machine Learning.

Even though this is the last week with video material, we will keep posting the plans for the following weeks as well as interesting material on opencourse.

As mentioned in the first lecture, we are happy to hear what else you would like to hear about. Please fill out this form if there is a specific topic and we can see what we can do.
